San Francisco - The first vision was simple and straightforward: To curtail puppy mills and kitten factories, the sale of cats and dogs should be banned in San Francisco, where the loving guardians of animal companions come to regular blows politically with the loving parents of children. The ban was put on hold last year after animal advocates broadened it to include anything with fur or feathers. Now it's back, with a new name and a new strategy: More is more. At 4:30 p.m. on April 21, after scout Deaf Smith announced the burning of Vince's Bridge (cutting off the primary avenue of retreat for both armies), the main Texan battle line moved forward. A fifer played the popular tune "Will you come to the bower I have shaded for you?" General Houston personally led the infantry, posting the 2nd Volunteer Regiment of Colonel Sidney Sherman on his far left, with Colonel Edward Burleson's 1st Volunteer Regiment next in line. In the center, two small brass smoothbore artillery pieces (donated by citizens of Cincinnati, Ohio, and known as the "Twin Sisters,"...

San Francisco BART has rejected our pro-Israel bus ads. BART claims my ad "violates content neutral guidelines." But the anti-Israel annihilationist ads supporting jihad that are currently running do not "violate centent neutral guidelines." Pamela: I have received the following response from BART. I imagine these are dark days in the tastefully decorated offices of our congressional representative and speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. Republicans only need to pick up 39 seats in the House of Representatives in order to be back in the majority, and pundits estimate that the Grand Old Party is poised to win 45 to 50 seats. A landslide for the Republicans would be a serious humiliation since a large but unofficial part of the speakers job is to keep the party in power. What will Pelosi do if Dems lose the majority and she loses her position...

Cold, San Francisco? Probably Because You Have No InsulationBy Joe Eskenazi Tue., Aug. 10 2010 @ 12:59PM No insulation in Mr. Freeze's lair either âTo folks living in actual cold-weather communities, San Franciscans' complaints about our recent chilly spell have something of a Marie Antoinette-level naivete. Face it, San Francisco: The coldest day out-of-doors here isn't that cold. Period. That being said, you may very well be shivering indoors here, because, under state law, San Francisco apartments need not have any insulation whatsoever. **SNIP** The laws are not the same for those residing in homes and apartment-dwellers, notes Ed Sweeney,...
